Year 5
Welcome To Year 5
Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome to Year 5. It was lovely to see so many parents at out our ‘Meet the Teachers’ and so helpful as it is a very big jump for the children moving from Y4 to Y5.
The Year 5 teaching team comprises: Mrs Ardron, Mr Burrows, Mrs Farry, Miss Jackson and Mrs Shakir. In Upper Key Stage 2 – Years 5 & 6 - your child will be taught English and maths in one of four groups to suit their particular needs. Naturally, the work load will increase this year and homework is an essential element to your child making good progress. Your support in providing time and a space for your child to work quietly will be very important during the next two years.
Times table knowledge is an essential part of maths in Y5 in order to develop skills in all areas of number – particularly fractions - so regular practice is essential. Reading is also the key to accessing the whole curriculum, so we would appreciate you listening to your child read as often as you can and please comment in your child’s reading record.
P.E. lessons will be on a Monday afternoon; the P.E. uniform is on our website.
You will already have received our new opening hours, but just to remind you, school starts at 8:45am and finishes at 3:15pm. The children will need to be at the Year 5 gate – the one in the bottom corner of the yard nearest to Reedyford Road – a few minutes beforehand.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Ardron and Mr Burrows
