Arts Week

ARTS WEEK 12th – 16th December 2016

As our Arts week took place just before the Christmas holidays it seemed obvious to theme the week around the festive period – Winter / Cold / Christmas.

Over the week all the children throughout the school had a list of tasks to complete:

Attend the Lazy Mondays Pop Band performance on Monday morning to start off the week in style!

Attend the Bradley choir / ocarina / recorder performance on Tuesday afternoon.

Learn about an artist and create a painting on a canvas in the style of their chosen artist.           Hold an Art Exhibition on Thursday afternoon to allow family members to see the children’s art work and buy their canvases.

Attend a musical performance by children from Marsden Heights Community College on Friday morning.

Take part in the Arts Week Finale Showcase on Friday afternoon.  Each year group was asked to talk about their artist and to perform a song to the rest of the school.

Throughout the week children also took part in drama activities and made Christmas cards and decorations.

At the end of the showcase all the staff sang Do They Know It’s Christmas.  This was a wonderful surprise for the children and they really enjoyed seeing their teachers singing and dancing!

Marsden Heights

We asked some children from one of the local high schools to perform for us during Arts Week.  We enjoyed listening to them playing the keyboard and singing.

Arts Week in EYFS

During Arts Week we learnt about the artist Wassily Kandinsky.  We painted onto canvases in the same style as Kandinsky.  We also used a paint program on the computers to make similar pictures.  We invited our families into our classroom to see our work and buy our paintings.

We also made Christmas cards and salt dough decorations and decorated Christmas trees.

Throughout the week we practised a Christmas song from Spain called Feliz Navidad.  We sang this for the whole school.

We all loved Arts Week!
